I know it has been a lot all at once, but I feel if I don’t write these soon after I finish for the day, they never get written. I managed to get some time in the workshop yesterday, so I decided to get some more work on the rope making machine. Not all of it forging this time, but still just making pieces, getting ready for the final assembly. I am going to try something mew, instead of writing the process then adding pictures, I am going to post a galley of pictures wit the description as a caption. Please tell me what you think of this new format.
Making the Handle
Making the arms (still havn’t lit the forge
The parts so far.
Making the Turning arms (Finally some forging)
these are the posts at the opposite end of the bars from the hooks.
The final parts assembled below. The next step will be to attach the hooks and pins to the bars. The metal plates that hold the device together and allow mounting to the sled will still need to be produced as well. These will be the final metal work done for the project. From there it will just be the woodworking:
Making the turning bar.
Making the 2 part frame.
Making the sled to mount it all too.
Because the images found on ebay are all I have to go on, the sled will be purely my own creation. I will try to make it as period as possible, base on the few pictures I can find.
Some random images of rope making machines on the sled. I will have to do some more reading before I start on that part.
Well, that’s about it for me today, I hope to get some more done next weekend.
Your servant,
Grimm
